Walk/Run

I walked and talked for the first .5 miles then did .1 walk/run
intervals... I felt out of breath during my runs... Not a good day...

Back to Running

After a 3-week hiatus from working out I'm back in the gym and back on the treadmill. For the past 3 days I've run a mile - yes, just one - then either lifted weights or rode 5 miles on the cycle. I've learned that I really enjoy running and how great it is to work up a major sweat in just 10 minutes! I'm going to keep it at a mile for the rest of the week and then next week I'm hoping to run 2 miles on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Then maybe 3 miles for week 3.

Getting faster... :)

4 Week, 3 Days

So I've decided that I REALLY need to lose 15 pounds before I head to Vegas on June 12. To accomplish this goal I am going to run a 5k 4 days a week and lift weights 3 days a week. This can't possibly be pushing it, right? I mean, people do much more than this when training for a marathon, right???

Partial Duathlon

My boys and I rode 10 miles on the bike today then I ran a mile on the treadmill... Not bad for a lazy Sunday... Now if only I had run before our bike ride my duathlon would be complete - that, and if I had run and cycled longer! :o )

My 2nd 5k

I was a little bit slower tonight, but since I REALLY didn't want to run, it was a pretty fab run if I must say so myself!

My 1st 5k!

I walked for 3 minutes then ran for 37 minutes!!! My first 5k and in 40 minutes! :-D

Week 5, Day 7

I worked out with a friend on Sunday. I warmed up on the elliptical machine while my friend ran a mile, then I ran a mile, then I rode the cycle while my friend ran a mile, then I ran another mile. It was a pretty good workout, but I was wearing my new Asics and there really isn't a lot of cushioning in them… I'm fairly certain I'm going to exchange them and try another pair. My Brooks are working out fine, though.

Week 5, Day 5

Last night I ran 13:00 at 4.7 mph, walked 2:00 at 3.5 (both x2), ran
2:20 at 6.0 mph to reach 2.5 miles. It was a really good run. I'm not
really following my book's 8-week program anymore because it seems
like when I have a bad day it puts me off track and I feel pressure.
But, I'm now going to try to run every other day and eventually run/
walk for an hour every other day.

Week 5, Day 3

On Wednesday I had a really good run. At first I started running at 5.0 mph, but my legs ached again and I felt like I was pounding. I decided to run a little slower - 4.7 mph - to see how my legs felt at that pace and they felt MUCH better. Even though I can run at 5.0 mph without getting breathless, it can't be a good thing if it's killing my legs...

I ended up walking for 3 minutes to warm up, ran :30 at 5.0 mph, ran 12:15 at 4.7 mph (which equals a 12:45 min mile)., walked 1:30, ran 12:45 at 4.7 mph, walked 1:00, ran 1:46 at 6.0 mph until I reached 2.5 miles (at which point I took the above pic), walked 10:00 at 3.0 mph until I reached 3.0 miles. So, at least I now know that I can run/walk a 5K in under 45:00!!! ;o )

BTW... I was wearing my Brooks shoes.

Week 4, Day 7

This is from my run this past Sunday. I bought two new pairs of shoes on Saturday - a pair of Asics and a pair of Brooks - from a store called Road Runner Sports in Concord. http://www.roadrunnersports.com/

The employees at Road Runner Sports were great! I arrived at 5:55 and the store was closing at 6:00, but they still took their time with me to help me pick the right shoe. My step and my walk were both tested to see which category of shoes I needed to choose from (Stability+), and after I narrowed it down to the Asics and Brooks... I bought both! Road Runner Sports has a 60-day perfect fit guarantee - "Your running shoes should be so comfortable that you hardly notice them on your feet. Let the experts at Road Runner Sports help you find your Perfect Fit. And now, with our unrivaled PERFECT FIT GUARANTEE, you can hit the road in your new running shoes. If they're not just right for you, simply exchange them within 60 days, no questions asked." - How fabulous is that?

Anyway... I attempted a run on Sunday morning in my new Asics, but my legs ached sooooo much and I stopped after 10 minutes. I know that it's partly because I haven't been stretching and massaging them enough, but it just takes sooooooo long. But I stretched and stretched and stretched and massaged and stretched my legs then went running again on Sunday evening. The run above is from Sunday evening, while wearing my Brooks shoes. I'll try the Asics again, but right now I'm thinking that the Brooks are a better fit for me.

Week 4, Day 4

I had a pretty good run tonight, but I am definitely super tired...

Week 4, Days 2 and 3

On day 2 I took my walk along The Embarcadero. Yesterday (Day 3) I attempted to run, but my legs felt heavy, my mouth was incredibly dry, and I felt really tired. After 10 minutes I finally stopped running and instead used the elliptical machine for 40 minutes. So tonight, even though I'm supposed to walk, I'm going to run to make up my missed run of yesterday. Hopefully I just had a bad day.

Week 4, Day 1

I ran 2.27 miles last night. Unfortunately I didn't have a lot of energy and something is definitely going on with my right foot/heel/shoe, but I finished my run. I bought heel inserts for my shoes about a week ago and I can't even tell that the left insert is in - it feels that comfortable... But of course the right insert feels so uncomfortable... At this point, I'm not sure if it's more uncomfortable with or without the insert.

Also, last night was my second run in a row where I got a stitch in my side after about 10 minutes, but it went away after a minute or so. I need to remember to look up why this happens...

BTW... I NEVER thought I would say this, but I kinda feel like running tonight! But I won't because I'm not supposed to run again until tomorrow and I don't want to burn out.

Week 3, Day 6

I ran 2.26 miles last night, at an average of 13:20 minute miles. Tomorrow I start the 8-week running program. However, I'm going to start at week 2 because week 1 is way too easy (run 1 minute/walk 1 minute) and, well, I have been consistently running for 3 weeks now. Anyway, I hope I'm up for it!

Week 3, Day 5

Not far and not fast, but at least I ran...

Week 3, Day 3

I think I'm going to switch to the 8-week running program. I'm in week 3 of the 24-week program and I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere... Last night I ended up running for .4 miles and walking for .1, but I ran at a steady 12 mph pace rather than adjusting my speed every time I ran - to switch things up. So starting on Monday I'm switching programs!

Week 3, Day 1

I had physical therapy this afternoon and was sleepy afterwards, but I drank a cup of coffee (suggested by the book I bought if I needed a boost) and managed to get my run in tonight.

Week 2, Day 5

Last night I ran 2.26 miles in 30 minutes. I really didn't want to run because my neck was sore and I was curled up on the couch, but I finally went at 9pm. My feet felt like lead weights while I was running, but at least it didn't bother my neck!

Week 2, Day 3

Even though I technically missed days 1 and 2 this week because of my neck, we'll just continue as if I didn't miss them... ;o)

Since I had a great walk this afternoon and was feeling great this evening, I decided to run. I figured I could always stop if I wasn't feeling it... But I ended up having a really fab run!!!

Now I'm hoping I didn't hurt myself in some as-yet-unknown way... :o )
